that you should do before buying any Books Online.

5. Reconfirm that you have
the right book as per the Current Society of Actuaries
Catalog. Make sure that you have the right authors, the
right publisher and the right edition.
Certain books may not be available
at Amazon or may not be listed at this site. I haven't
listed Actex Manuals so far but when I find them I will.
You can still search at Amazon or you may consider spliting
up your order between Amazon and one of the other three
bookstore. This would make sense under the following conditions
- If you are ordering more than
one book. Higher chance of getting a better deal
since the other three stores operate on a fixed price
basis.
- Your order is worth more than
a hundred dollar. Shipping charges would drop as a percentage
of your order size. You may be able to get a better
delivery option if you shop around.
- You are ordering from outside
North America. At some bookstores there may be upto
a 50% surcharge on orders placed from outside North
America. You should be able to save on this. One piece
of advise is to order your books in bulk and use one
of the couriers/overnight carriers as a delivery options.
You can even combine your orders and simply split the
shipping charges. Otherwise you may go mad trying to
trace your books via the local postal service.
- If you need the books in a hurry.
Books published by the SOA can generally
be ordered via Amazon. They also stock most of the stuff
published by ACTEX publishers. If a book is out of stock
or not available and if you can wait, Amazon may help
you locate a copy via their network of used book
stores.
